What does a road trip with Redwood Coast Motoring Tours look like? You can count on enjoying ancient redwoods, scenic coastline and charming towns; however, the details of your trip are really up to you and your car club! Below you’ll find samples of one-day and four-day/three-night itineraries. While our tours are completely customizable to include a wide variety of Humboldt and Del Norte counties’ most famous locations and exciting attractions, we hope this list gives you an idea of what your Redwood Coast motoring tour could include.
Sample One-Day Itinerary
Meet at the 265-foot Grandfather Tree and famous One-Log House in Cooks Valley, located in southern Humboldt County.
Drive to the beautiful Historic Benbow Inn for breakfast.
Head north to Avenue of the Giants, the magnificent 31-mile historic highway through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, where we will visit the Living Chimney Tree, Drive-through Tree and Visitor Center.
Head north for lunch at Samoa Cookhouse, a landmark historic “lumber camp” eatery and logging museum.
Visit the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum.
Take 1-1/4 hour narrated tour of Humboldt Bay on the MV Madaket.
Head south to the Victorian Village of Ferndale for wine/beer & hors d'oeuvres reception.
Attend an evening concert at The Old Steeple, a music venue located in a historic former church.
Sample 4-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at the famous One-Log House in Cooks Valley, located in southern Humboldt County. While there, visit the 265-foot Grandfather Tree.
Drive to the beautiful Historic Benbow Inn for breakfast.

Enjoy wine tasting at Riverbend Cellars, a family-owned and -operated bouquet winery nestled between the Eel River and Redwoods.
Stop at the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center for natural history exhibits, bookstore and gift shop.
Drive through the verdant Eel River Valley to the Victorian Village of Ferndale.
Socialize at a wine/beer & hors d’oeuvres reception at Ferndale Barndominium, an Airbnb set in a beautiful garden that includes a silo bar and airy Atrium.
Relax with dinner at VI Restaurant in host hotel, the historic Victorian Inn.
Attend a play at renowned Ferndale Repertory Theatre on Main Street.
Day 2
Start the day with breakfast at Victorian Inn
Drive toward the ocean for a tour of Fern Cottage, the immaculately preserved home of Ferndale pioneers Joseph and Zipporah Russ.
Tour the Ferndale Museum, treasure trove of Victorian era, redwoods, and Humboldt County history.
Meet for lunch at favorite local eatery Ferndale Pizza Co.
Enjoy shopping on Main Street Ferndale, home to some of Humboldt County’s best independent boutiques, gift shops and art galleries.
Dinner in one of Ferndale’s acclaimed restaurants.
Enjoy an evening concert at The Old Steeple, a music venue located in a historic former church.
Day 3:
Start the day with breakfast at VI
Drive to the Humboldt Bay community of Samoa for Timber Heritage’s speeder car ride, a four mile round trip on the rails from the town of Samoa along beautiful Humboldt Bay to Manila.
Tour the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum.
Enjoy lunch at Samoa Cookhouse, a landmark historic “lumber camp” eatery and logging museum.
Take 1-1/4 hour narrated tour of Humboldt Bay on the MV Madaket.
Visit Carl’s Car World, a boutique of everything automobile collected by mega-auto dealer Carl Schneider.
Tour a private 60+ auto collection.
Enjoy dinner and a tour of a Victorian mansion.
Day 4:
Meet for another breakfast at Victorian Inn
Head north along U.S. Route 101, stopping for Roosevelt Elk viewing off Davison Road.
Drive the scenic ten miles of the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway. Located in the southern third of Redwood National and State Parks, it’s considered one of California’s most stunning drives.
Stop at the world-famous Trees of Mystery (best known for its 49-foot statue of Paul Bunyan and 35-foot statue of his companion Babe the Blue Ox), where we can walk through a biosphere atop old-growth redwoods, take a tram to the top of a redwood crowned mountain and tour a museum of native American crafts and clothing.
Enjoy a casual lunch at the Forest Café in Klamath, CA.
Take a one-mile hike down to the breakers of the Pacific Ocean.
Explore Trinidad State Beach, a long stretch of scenic coastline that includes College Cove, a much photographed beach with sheltered waters and tidepools.
Return to Ferndale for dinner at vibrant Mexican-inspired restaurant Tuyas.
